Nokia 303 Spotted at Nokia Store! Playing Angry Birds?

Yesterday I was browsing some games at the Nokia Store. After some time, I checked out if Angry Birds for Symbian has already got the 1.6.3 update. Yes, it is. But something wrong distracted me. Typically, the Angry Birds series game for Symbian would have an installation size of about 20-40MB. But I found one Angry Birds entry on the search results which is only 1.84MB in size. Odd! It costs $0.99 and it does not have any reviews when I viewed it yesterday. I thought to myself, someone will be losing out their 99 cents as I thought it might just be an error on Nokia's side when updating the game and might have duplicate entries. I checked it again, just now. And it already has one 5-star review! I checked the review and to my surprise, the person who wrote it downloaded and installed on an unannounced and mysterious Nokia 303. At first, it cannot be possible. A Nokia phone in the 300 lineup couldn't be a Symbian phone. I Googled the keyword Nokia 303 and I ended up on Jay's post at MyNokiaBlog. Nokia 303 is an S40 phone and say what? It can play Angry Birds!

So there is two main news here. A Nokia 303 prototype unit was used to download Angry Birds at Nokia Store. The person who downloaded it is located somewhere at Finland. :)
Lastly, Angry Birds is coming to S40! S40 users celebrate! Users who have an S40 phone, please verify it and kindly provide us some screenshots if you have already downloaded it.

Oh. Angry Birds on a Nokia 303 = Touch phone? Capacitive touch screen? MULTITOUCH? :)

Download Free and Premium Apps from Nokia Store from Ovi Suite

Click the image to view in full resolution.

I don't know if this is new but I noticed that you may now download and install apps from Nokia Store without actually having to visit Nokia Store on your PC browser or by opening it on your phone! Before, you can select download from Ovi Suite but it will just open the Nokia Store app on your phone and download it there. But that has changed by now. Downloading free and premium apps can be done from Ovi Suite itself and once the download is done, the file will be automatically transferred to your phone and will open automatically. I haven't tried it with premium apps though as it is not available on our country.

A Look at the New Nokia Store

Bharadwaj tweeted that someone, okay he's Antonio, posted a tip at MyNokiaBlog.com that he has already installed the new Nokia Store for Symbian Belle. It looks like the MeeGo version of the store. Maybe it's because of Qt. Hmm. Can't wait for Nokia to port other apps from MeeGo to Symbian! ^_^

By the way, if someone knows or has the installer of this new Nokia Store, kindly share it. :D

UPDATE: This version is said to be version 3.16.030.

A Huge Wave of Zombies is Approaching on Your Nokia!

Not now though. But if all of you guys there post on the thread that I created at the PopCap Forums and tell them to port it, then we may see the zombies on our Nokia phones soon! So what are you waiting for? Visit the PopCap Forums now and post your suggestions for the other games too! Just click the Connect with Facebook button on the upper-right part of the screen to login and post. :)

One PopCap employee has already responded to the thread. But he seems not 'so' convinced right now. Maybe if we got hundreds, or maybe thousands of posts they will be convinced to port it. :D

Official foursquare for MeeGo Now Out

Just a heads up N9 and N950 users there! foursquare, or I should say Nokia has just released the official foursquare app for MeeGo! 4squick now has it's competitor as the official app is well-packed and has all features. Plus, it's very quick (pun intended)!
"Foursquare helps you find new ways to explore the world around you. See where your friends are, learn about the places they frequent, keep track of all the things you want to do and learn about new things to experience from your friends!"

Nokia 701 is Coming to the Philippines

Click the image to view in full resolution.

I just installed the Nokia Data Package Manager and tried to browse if Symbian Belle is already available for N8 there. But nothing showed up. I instead browsed on Nokia 701 firmware files, which does not yet appear on Navifirm, and to my surprise it showed data variants for the Philippines!

Nokia 701 will be available in 4 different colors: Steel Blue, Amethyst, Dark Steel, and Light Silver. By the way, latest version of Symbian Belle is 111.010.1009 and the firmware files itself is almost 400Mb while the data package (i.e. Mass Memory / Memory Card content) is 1.05Gb in size.

Will try to check out the Nokia 500, 600 and 700 tomorrow there.

Smart Now Has About More Than 500 HSPA+ Cell Sites

I've been watching how Globe and Smart will roll-out their respective HSPA+ (aka 4G) networks here in the Philippines. I just checked Smart's latest list of their HSPA+ coverage and it has now many areas covered, compared to about 150+ cell sites a few weeks ago. Now that's an aggressive one. I bet they will have a thousand cell sites by October or November. Meanwhile, Globe has not yet published it's coverage area list for  their HSPA+ network. I will try to ask them and update this post.

By the way, I wonder if Smart's HSPA+ network will work on my Nokia N8 (since it has a HSPA category 9 with capability of having download speeds of up to 10.2Mbps) with the ordinary Smart SIM, not the Bro ones... HSPA+ is backward compatible with 3G and 3.5G phones so techinically, it should work. It's not the real "4G".

I will try to test it out this week on my phone.

EchoEcho Meet-up Application Now Available for Symbian

The not-so-popular but crossplatform application EchoEcho is now available for Symbian. EchoEcho answers the question "Where are you?" and shows to your friends your exact location on the map. The advantage here is that it is also available on other platforms i.e. iOS, Android, BlackBerry and soon, on Windows Phone. You will get many friends because of that. Personally, I haven't tried this app yet. But it looks promising.

Three Magnitude 6+ Earthquakes Hits in Past 1 Hour

3:53 PM Philippine Time, I got a pop-up notification that a Magnitude 6.0 quake struck the New Zealand region near the North Island at a depth of 13km (8mi).

Fast forward 7 minutes later I got another notification again. This time, at 04:00 PM a Magnitude 6.2 quake struck on the easter part of Fukushima region on Japan. Yeah I know this region is periodically hit by earthquakes of that intensity since the Magnitude 9.1 quake sttuck the nation last March 11. By the way, the quake struck at a depth of 10km (6mi) below the surface of the earth.

40 minutes has passed and another notification appeared again. This time, a Magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Cuba on North America at 04:43 PM with a depth of 10km (6mi) too.

Feels creepy no?

All information from USGS. Reports from other agencies may show slightly different details.

How to Dual Boot Windows 8 Developer Preview

Disclaimer: You are about to do a risky process on your machine. Do this at your own risk. I will be not liable for any damage to your machine. Windows 8 is still in it's unstable release.

Dual booting is always a good idea if you are installing a beta, unreleased, or unstable operating system. It is also good so you won't mess up with your primary installation.

A Nokia Windows 8 Tablet/Notebook Coming?

Oh... Look what we have here. Nokia is attending the BUILD event at Anaheim, California this day and the next following days. From what I know, BUILD is an event where Microsoft and it's OEM partners will demo the new Windows 8, the latest operating system by Microsoft that will run on tablets and PCs. Now since Nokia is attending on that event, will we see the first Nokia tablet? Or maybe Nokia will announce their successor of their Booklet 3G notebook? We'll find out in the next few days.

Nokia Car Mode for Symbian Belle Announced

Nokia announced today their latest offering for the Symbian Belle OS. The next major update will support the Nokia Car Mode in which you may connect your phone running the said OS. The app makes it easier for drivers and passengers to access maps, satellite navigation (provided by Nokia Drive), traffic updates, music and voice calls when they are in vehicles. One advantage here is you may use your Nokia phone as a GPS Navigator device, no need for separate GPS devices. And while driving and navigating, you can do other phone functions too, like calling, playing music, and getting the latest traffic information. The app is written in Qt, thus, it will run across multiple platforms, though only Symbian Belle and MeeGo (for the N9) is mentioned as of this time. Another thing is that this project was previously known as the Terminal Mode, which was reported to us back in March. It will be available on Q4 2011.

Nokia N9 Available Starting September 15th?

Eldar Murtazin said in a tweet that the Nokia N9 will be on sale starting September 15th, or maybe a bit later. This could be true for some countries, like Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia, as those countries have either listed the official price on their website or has been already confirmed by a carrier. I hope though that it will be really coming this month, if not on that day.

Nokia N9 will be on sale from September 15. Not earlier. May be later. Thats depends from Nokia itselfless than a minute ago via Twitter for Symbian Favorite Retweet Reply

Vodafone Confirms Nokia N9 is Coming to Australia
