LG’s Nexus 5 exclusively arrives on Smart

IMG_0636

Google’s latest pure-, well, Google device, the Nexus 5 by LG, has arrived in the Philippines. The Android KitKat-packing smartphone is exclusively available on Smart. You can get the Nexus 5 without any upfront cash-out starting at Unlimited Data Plan 1500 on a 30-month contract. It includes unlimited LTE data, 120 SMS, and 60 minutes of calls to all networks. If you feel that a 30-month tie up is too long, you can opt to pay P6,000 and settle for the normal 24-month contract.

The Nexus 5 is also available on All-In Plan 1800 with no cash-out on 30-months, or for P3,500 on 24-month contract. Those who prefer to go the no-strings-attached way can get it for P22,500 on prepaid.

The Google Nexus 5 features a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 4G LTE, and an 8-megapixel camera with OIS. It is the first smartphone to run on Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.

LG’s 55-inch curved OLED TV arriving in first week of December

LG Curved OLED TV Philippines

The world’s first ever curved OLED television, made by LG, is set to be released in the Philippines in the first week of December. The 55-inch EA9800 model is specifically the one that is slated to be launched in the country. At only 4.3mm thick (should I say thin), it is as thick as the size of three credit cards, and one-fourth of conventional TVs. If that’s not enough to blow your mind, it is thinner than most flagship smartphones today (the thinnest smartphone is at around 6mm). Come to think of it. The LG OLED TV weighs at less than 17 kilograms.

A carbon fiber-reinforced plastic back is used to further strengthen the unit, and transparent speakers are embedded along the crystal-like stand. LG’s WRGB tech adds white sub-pixel in addition to the traditional red-green-blue setup to enhance colors and contrast. It also features a wide-angle display and includes the Smart TV capabilities and Cinema 3D features such as 2D to 3D conversion.

"LG is looking forward to launching the world’s first Curved OLED TV in the Philippines," said Hoony Bae, LG Electronics Philippines Vice President for Home Entertainment division. "Being a progressive country, the local market will surely enjoy getting a feel of the next generation TV technology, allowing optimal TV viewing experience, comfort, and entertainment. LG will continue to establish innovations like this that will ultimately benefit the consumer."

The LG Curved OLED TV EA9800 will retail for P499,990.

Online retailer DBGadgets selling the Nexus 5 for P24,600

DBGadgets Nexus 5 Philippines

The Nexus 5 is expected to be unveiled just a few hours from now, but that hasn’t stopped online retailer DBGadgets from selling it early. In a post on the retailer’s Facebook page, they have confirmed that the 16GB model of the Nexus 5 is arriving on November 5 and will be selling it for P24,600 ($569). This is very surprising since the new smartphone wasn’t unveiled officially by Google or LG yet, and even more so because the Philippines doesn’t have devices on Google Play Store.

It should be noted that the units they are selling are most probably sourced from other countries — Hong Kong perhaps — and does not come with any local warranty from LG or Google.

Google Nexus 5 Nexus Phone 2013 Philippines

First off, it is confirmed to be sporting a 4.95-inch 1080p full HD display, an IPS one at that, 16 or 32GB storage variants, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz, and 2GB of RAM. Its camera also gets an upgrade — though not in the megapixel number — and is said to have an OIS (optical image stabilization). The battery is rated at 2300mAh with wireless charging support. The upcoming Nexus phone finally comes with 4G LTE support (finally).

LG G2 now available in the Philippines

LG's new flagship smartphone, the LG G2, has already arrived in the Philippines.

The LG G2 features top-tier hardware and a bevy of software features. Humming inside it is a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 4G LTE connectivity. It also packs a 13 megapixel camera with sapphire crystal lens, 9-point autofocus, 60fps 1080p full HD recording, and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which should prevent you from taking blurry shots.

But the main feature the Korean company touts on the G2 is not on the inside — it's on the outside, the back-facing power and volume buttons which is aptly called the Rear Key. It may be strange at first, but it actually worked quite well on my brief hands-on.

Aside from having one of the high-end internals, LG has also stuffed a handful of software features on the G2 which takes aim at its competitors. One of those is Knock On, which conveniently locks and unlocks the screen with just two taps (or knocks). The idea is not entirely new, but it works.

The LG G2 is now out in the Philippines with an SRP of P29,990. It will also be available for free on Globe's Plan 1799.

LG G Pad 8.3 with 1920x1200 display goes official

LG G Pad 8.3 Philippines 2

After some teasing earlier, LG finally takes the wraps off its next tablet, the LG G Pad 8.3. The G Pad 8.3 flaunts an 8.3-inch display which makes it quite portable compared to its 10-inch counterparts while still being large enough for media consumption. The Korean manufacturer says the G Pad 8.3 is the ‘first 8-inch class tablet to offer a full HD display,’ a 1920x1200 one that is. It packs a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot that you can use for expansion, nor other storage options.

A 5 megapixel shooter is present on the back and a 1.3 megapixel camera is on the front. The battery is rated at 4600mAh, quite small for a tablet of this size. The LG G Pad 8.3 crams all of those in an 8.3mm body which weighs just 338g.

LG G Pad 8.3 Philippines

LG touts of the QPair as a unique feature on the G Pad 8.3. It will allow users to connect the G Pad with their smartphones and manage the calls and text messages received on the phone remotely from the tablet. What’s really nice is that QPair will work with any smartphone from other manufacturers as long as they run on Android Jelly Bean. This looks to be useful as me myself use apps that do just this. QPair will also allow users to save notes from the QMemo app directly to other devices.

Aside from that, there are other features that take advantage of the big screen too. Slide Aside allows for an easy multitasking by simply sliding three fingers on an app to switch to another. QSlide lets you work on three apps at the same time, similar to Samsung’s MultiWindow and KnockOn lets you unlock the screen just by poking or knocking the display twice.

LG G Pad 8.3 Specifications and Features
8.3-inch WUXGA display with 1920x1200 resolution at 273ppi
1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor
2GB RAM
16GB internal memory
5 megapixel camera
1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
4600mAh battery capacity
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS

LG says the G Pad 8.3 will be released in Q4, which means as soon as October, globally in North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions as well. Pricing will be announced closer to roll out dates, though we expect at least a ballpark figure on IFA 2013 in Berlin . The G Pad 8.3 will come in black and white.

Review: Google Nexus 4 by LG

The Nexus 4 is Google's fourth smartphone under their Nexus lineup, and this time it’s courtesy of LG. As a refresher, devices launched under that brand comes with stock version of Android. It doesn't come with any manufacturer or carrier customizations. In fact, Google dubs Nexus devices as 'Pure Google' devices.

Rumor: Nexus 4 production halted by LG, successor likely to launch next month

Google Nexus 4 by LG

Rumor has it that LG has halted the production of the just-launched Nexus 4, the flagship smartphone of Google under its Nexus brand of devices. International Business Times quotes LG Senior Vice President James Fisher as saying that the Nexus 4 is just "the first of many" Nexus products the company is working on, which hints LG and Google might be already working on the successor of the Nexus 4.

Fisher further added that "at Mobile World Congress next month and throughout the year, you'll see us bring to market more tier-one premium handsets in various screen sizes." The successor of the Nexus 4 is expected to launch along Google’s next version of Android, the Key Lime Pie.

If that is the case, well I feel sorry for the early adopters of the Nexus 4, and even more for the ones whose orders are only about to ship.
