Camera360 Sony QX100 QX10

Got one of those new attachable Sony QX10/QX100 camera lens? If you think that the first-party Play Memories app is a little lacking in features, well check this out. The makers of Camera360 recently added support for the QX10 and QX100 in their newest update last October 15.

With the new update, QX10 and QX100 users can now take advantage of Camera360’s live imaging filters such as Magic Skin, Enhance, Lomo, HDR, Retro, Black and White, Ghost and more. It also adds fill-in light feature to self-shoot mode to enhance portrait photos. Pairing Camera360 with Sony QX10 and QX100 only takes a couple of taps within the app.

You can get the updated Camera360 app on the Google Play Store. As of now, there is no support just yet for the iOS and Windows Phone versions of the app.

Sony announces the 10.1-inch Xperia Tablet Z

Sony Xperia Tablet Z Philippines

Coming up right after the Xperia Z announcement at CES, Sony has just announced its bigger brother, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.

The Xperia Tablet Z flaunts a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920x1200 resolution with Reality Display. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and has an 8 Megapixels camera with Exmor R sensor which Sony has always touted for low-light capturing of photos.

With its side measuring only 6.9mm, the Xperia Tablet Z is thinner by a bit than the iPad mini. And, as it has always been with Sony’s devices, it is also water and dust resistant, just like the Xperia Z. It also includes NFC and LTE connectivity which is not that usual on tablets, but its still welcome nonetheless.

Sony has not yet announced on when will the Xperia Tablet Z become available.

Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL becomes official

Sony Xperia Z Philippines

Sony Mobile finally unveiled their flagship smartphone for 2013, or the first half I think, the Xperia Z. The Xperia Z is a splendid smartphone by Sony, with it’s body beautifully sandwiched by two slabs of glass on the front and back. A 5-inch 1080p full HD screen makes this thing imaginably large by the number. Its display is packed with 443 pixels per inch, so we expect things on it to look really crisp.

The camera of the Xperia Z is a 13 Megapixels one with their new Exmor RS™ sensor which Sony say should allow for clear and quality photos under low-light conditions. It can also capture HDR video.

It is also IP55 and IP57-certified which means it can resist dust and water. Sony equipped the Xperia Z with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and coupled it with 2GB of RAM. As for the battery life, they added a new feature called Battery Stamina which, when activated, will improve standby times by up to 4 times.

It also supports LTE, particularly the bands 1, 3, and 5 which local carriers use.

Sony Xperia Z Specifications and Features
5-inch TFT HD Reality display with 1920x1080 full HD resolution
Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2
13 Megapixels autofocus camera with LED flash, Exmor RS sensor
2.1 megapixel front camera
1080p video recording
16GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB using microSD card
2 GB RAM
1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
3G/HSPA+ (850, 900, 2100 MHz)
LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20)
2,330mAh battery capacity
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS (upgrade to 4.2 after release)

The Sony Xperia Z will be released this Q1 2013 globally. They will also release a slightly different variant of it, the Xperia ZL in some countries that will not get the Xperia Z. The Xperia ZL offers a smaller form-factor and design but still retains the same specs.

The Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will launch on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and will be upgraded to 4.2 shortly after launch.

Smart to offer 5 LTE phones, including the Nexus 4 and HTC 8X

Smart LTE Nexus 4 HTC Windows Phone 8X

Now this is pretty interesting. Smart, apparently, will start to offer five LTE devices God-knows-when. One of those devices is the HTC Windows Phone 8X, a Windows Phone 8 smartphone which packs a 4.3-inch HD screen, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and 1Gb RAM. It also features Beats™ Audio and 8 Megapixels camera. The HTC 8X currently being sold at retail stores in the Philippines does not have LTE, so it looks like Smart managed to snag this exclusively.

Next up is Google’s latest smartphone, the Nexus 4. Wait a minute, did I just read that? Nexus 4? As in, Google Nexus 4 with LTE? LTE? I thought Nexus 4’s LTE only works in Canada? Stop. I am really confused on this just as you are. The LTE on Nexus 4 was only made to work with Canada’s Bell which runs it’s 4G network on the Band 4 (AWS 2100MHz and 1700MHz). The thing is, Smart’s LTE network operates only on the bands 1 (2100MHz), 3 (1800MHz), and 5 (850MHz). Maybe Google did a magical update in the production line and decided to include all necessary stuffs to make LTE work. If that’s the case though, early Nexus 4 adopters are screwed.

The other 3 remaining is the Huawei Ascend D1 LTE which packs a 4.5-inch screen, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a humongous 13 Megapixels snapper, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8Gb of storage and a gigabyte of RAM. Next up is the Sony Xperia V which is pretty much similar with the Ascend D1 LTE in terms of specs, save for the screen which is a 4.3-inch one. This one is also water-resistant. Lastly, we have the ZTE T82 here. It is also an Android Ice Cream Sandwich device with a 4.3-inch screen, a 1.5GHz processor, 8 Megapixels camera, 4Gb storage and 1Gb of RAM. This seems to be the most affordable among them all.

What’s more interesting is that the recently announced iPhone 5 which will be launched here on December 14 is not included.

We’ll try to get in more info regarding this one from Smart and will update accordingly.

Smaller and lighter PlayStation 3 available starting December 6

PlayStation 3 Slim

If you are in the market for your first gaming console, take a look at the latest Sony PlayStation 3. The latest iteration of the Japanese company’s system features a smaller and lighter package. Sony has redesigned the internal architecture which then resulted in a reduction of the weight by more than a half compared to the first generation PS3. The sleek and and curvy body that most have been familiar with is still there.

Storage sizes have been upgraded too. Now you can choose from the 250Gb model or the larger 500Gb one so you can have more of your games, photos, music, and videos.

The Sony PS3 will be priced P14,999 for the 250Gb model and P15,999 for the 500Gb model. You can also opt for the Ultimate Pack which includes two titles: God of War™ III and UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves™ Game of the Year Edition for P16,390. You can buy one in stores starting December 6.
