Globe adds the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Nokia Lumia 820, HTC One SV, and more to its LTE lineup, now offers 9 in total

Globe LTE Smartphones

Do you want to join the LTE bandwagon but are not sure of which device to get and where? Well, it looks like Globe has the answer to that question.

A press release from Globe took us by surprise which states that they currently have the most number of available LTE smartphones in the Philippines as of yet. The recent additions to that lineup includes the HTC One, which by the way I’m currently reviewing (watch out for that!), the Nokia Lumia 820, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and the HTC One SV.

Android users are guaranteed of the most number of devices from Globe with its most affordable offer for the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE at P1,599 monthly under Plan 999 with P600 monthly cashout.

Globe also sealed an exclusivity deal to be the lone carrier of the new HTC One, touted as one of the best Android smartphones in the world, available at P1,699 monthly under Plan 999 with a monthly cashout of P700.

The HTC One SV and Nokia Lumia 820 are being offered at the higher Plan 1799 monthly without cashout. Oddly enough, the Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE, another Globe-exclusive device, is available at P2,199 monthly under Plan 1799 with a P400 monthly cashout.

The HTC One SV sports a  1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, supports lightning-fast LTE speeds, along with an all-day battery life, amazing camera, Beats Audio, and an ultra-sleek design that complements its breathtaking speed.

Dubbed as the most versatile Lumia, the Nokia Lumia 820 boasts of an 8.7 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, and removable wireless charging shells and matching headsets in vibrant colors.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE features a 5.5-inch large HD display, 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor, and 2GB RAM.

That brings the total number of LTE smartphones being offered by Globe to 9 — seven of which are exclusive to them. This advantage should be attributed to their decision to go for the 1800MHz LTE frequency which is widely used across many countries in Europe and Asia and the fact that more device manufacturers support the said LTE frequency.

Smart to offer 5 LTE phones, including the Nexus 4 and HTC 8X

Smart LTE Nexus 4 HTC Windows Phone 8X

Now this is pretty interesting. Smart, apparently, will start to offer five LTE devices God-knows-when. One of those devices is the HTC Windows Phone 8X, a Windows Phone 8 smartphone which packs a 4.3-inch HD screen, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and 1Gb RAM. It also features Beats™ Audio and 8 Megapixels camera. The HTC 8X currently being sold at retail stores in the Philippines does not have LTE, so it looks like Smart managed to snag this exclusively.

Next up is Google’s latest smartphone, the Nexus 4. Wait a minute, did I just read that? Nexus 4? As in, Google Nexus 4 with LTE? LTE? I thought Nexus 4’s LTE only works in Canada? Stop. I am really confused on this just as you are. The LTE on Nexus 4 was only made to work with Canada’s Bell which runs it’s 4G network on the Band 4 (AWS 2100MHz and 1700MHz). The thing is, Smart’s LTE network operates only on the bands 1 (2100MHz), 3 (1800MHz), and 5 (850MHz). Maybe Google did a magical update in the production line and decided to include all necessary stuffs to make LTE work. If that’s the case though, early Nexus 4 adopters are screwed.

The other 3 remaining is the Huawei Ascend D1 LTE which packs a 4.5-inch screen, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, a humongous 13 Megapixels snapper, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8Gb of storage and a gigabyte of RAM. Next up is the Sony Xperia V which is pretty much similar with the Ascend D1 LTE in terms of specs, save for the screen which is a 4.3-inch one. This one is also water-resistant. Lastly, we have the ZTE T82 here. It is also an Android Ice Cream Sandwich device with a 4.3-inch screen, a 1.5GHz processor, 8 Megapixels camera, 4Gb storage and 1Gb of RAM. This seems to be the most affordable among them all.

What’s more interesting is that the recently announced iPhone 5 which will be launched here on December 14 is not included.

We’ll try to get in more info regarding this one from Smart and will update accordingly.

Smart LTE Pocket Wi-Fi coming soon, will bring LTE for all

Smart Communications, Inc. announced today that it will soon add a new device to its LTE lineup, the Smart LTE Pocket Wi-Fi.

Smart LTE Pocket WiFi

The arrival of Smart’s LTE Pocket Wi-Fi means anyone can connect their Wi-Fi devices to it and have fast LTE speeds. The most important thing about this device is that it actually allows you to share your LTE connection to anyone near you even they don’t have an LTE-capable device or even they don’t have an LTE data plan.

What are the advantages of the LTE Pocket Wi-Fi? For one, you can save money. You don’t have to settle for just an LTE dongle which will only work with one device at a time, unless you connect it to a router with a USB slot, or use internet connection sharing on your computer, which is hassle. Second is portability. The problem with a dongle is that you have to connect it to a computer or a laptop for you to use it. The LTE Pocket WI-Fi does the opposite. Just press the power button and you have a Wi-Fi network with LTE speeds. You can take this thing in your car when on a long road trip, try doing that with the other one.

“LTE for All, that’s what the Smart LTE Pocket Wi-Fi brings to the table,” according to Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services Head Lloyd Manaloto. “Even if you don’t have a Smart LTE Plan or the latest LTE-enabled gadgets, you can already experience the power of Smart LTE,” he added.

The specific device being used by Smart is the Huawei E589. It supports downlink of up to 100Mbps and uplink of up to 50Mbps. It supports multiple LTE frequencies, five in fact, which are 2100 (Band 1), 1800 (Band 3), 2600 (Band 7, 900 (Band 8), and 800 (Band 20) MHz. Dual-band 3G (UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, and DC-HSPA) are also there, supporting 900 and 2100 MHz. Quad-band 2G is supported, of course, supporting 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz. Lastly, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n is here to do all the sharing. The battery is rated at 3,000 mAh.

Smart has not yet announced the plans and pricing details for the LTE Pocket Wi-Fi although I wouldn’t be surprised if it will be offered at the same Plan 3500 with 10 GB of data. This is intended for sharing and multiple users at all.
