N9 vs. Lumia 800: Who's The Winner?

The voting for the Nokia N9 vs. Lumia 800 poll has already closed before the clock hit the midnight of 2012. And, here's the result.

And the winner is ...*drum roll please*... the Nokia N9!

The N9 outnumbered the Lumia 800, with the MeeGo phone getting 61 (77%) votes, and the Lumia 800 getting 18 (22%) votes. A total of 79 votes has been made. The conclusion is, based on this poll, almost 8 out of every 10 person prefers the N9, while only 2 prefer the Lumia 800 as their choice when they will buy a new phone.

It seems most people still like the "Swipe" UI of the N9. But for me, I really like Windows Phone's Metro UI more. :)

Anyway, be sure to watch out for my N9 and Lumia 800 reviews! :)

Nokia Philippines N9 Ad On Yahoo! Philippines

Nokia Philippines has taken over the Yahoo! Philippines homepage with a quirky ad for the Nokia N9. The ad insists that we should learn to eat with our feet! How are we gonna do that...

Anyway, just in cased you missed, the Angry Birds classic game is now available for the Nokia N9/N950 at Nokia Store. We'll be reviewing the Nokia N9 in the next few weeks. :)

Angry Birds Now Finally on Nokia N9/N950

The original version of Rovio Mobile's Angry Birds is now finally available at Nokia Store for the Nokia N9 and N950. It's still on version 1.6.3 and we're still waiting for the Happy Birdday episode to come out for the MeeGo and Symbian version.

The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds ’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles. Angry Birds features hours of gameplay, challenging physics-based castle demolition, and lots of replay value. Each of the 288 levels requires logic, skill, and brute force to crush the enem y.
Protect wildlife or play Angry Birds!

Unboxing: A Special Nokia N9

Click image to view in full-resolution.
Look! We've just received this Nokia N9 packed in a special box! And I'm here again for the unboxing rituals. Sorry, no videos. I am not that good in shooting videos. Maybe soon, eh? :D

You may click each photos to view them in a much higher resolution.

The Nokia N9 came in a very special and luxurious-looking box. Open it, and the gorgeous and beautiful looking phone greets you. It is laid on a very soft 'cottony' case, the ones that you usually see on luxury watch cases. Then there's the Nokia logo embedded on the upper part of the case.

The N9 looks very very sleek! See that? That's the Gorilla Glass that is curved so it fades into the body.

The review unit that I received comes with these basic accessories. Just right for a normal use.

The package comes with a Nokia Soft Cover CC-1020. The case has a matte texture, it's not like the N8 Silicone Case that becomes 'sticky' when your hands are sweated. The case does not also add too much thickness to the N9. It gives you access to all ports and buttons, except for the sim tray.

This is the Nokia Charging and Data Cable CA-185CD. This one loos minimalistic, just like Apple's USB cable for their iDevices.

Next up is the Nokia Fast USB Charger AC-16. This one plugs directly to the wall socket, and then you'll just attach the USB of the N9 and, voila! You now have a charger! Unfortunately, I can not use this as it has a different plug type. I think this one is a European variant.

This is the Nokia Stereo Headset WH-901. This is a basic headset. Nokia could've just packaged the N9 with the WH-701. I miss the music controls. And the earphone itself keeps falling off my ears when I use it! Okay, enough rants.

This is the product fact sheet. Lists all of the N9's technical profile which made a lot of oohs and aaahs.

N9's back, touting it's 8 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, along with a dual-LED flash. The body is a polycarbonate  plastic. But it still has a special feel on it, not just a cheapo plastic. *cough*

N9 is powered on! I've put a security code so it is... well, secured.

It's now swiping time!!

This is how the N9 looks when it's in the soft case. Still looks sexy, doesn't it? :)

This completes my Nokia N9 unboxing. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for my full review!

The Nokia N9 is now available in the Philippines and retails for P24,990 for the 16GB variant and P29,490 for the 64GB variant at Nokia Stores nationwide. To know more about the Nokia N9, please click here.

A special shout-out and thank you to Nokia Philippines for providing us this review unit! :D

NFC - Tap Into Something New With Nokia

NFC enabled smartphones like the Nokia N9 allows users to  easily connect to compatible accessories or experience multiplayer gaming through a single tap.
NFC. A new whole way to interact with almost anything, easily and very convenient. It lets you connect to any compatible accessories, say the Nokia Play 360, or the BH-219 headset or the BH-505 stereo headset. You can also do other things with NFC, from checking and downloading the latest movie trailers, checking colors and sizes available on the clothing store, to checking map directions to your favorite restaurant in town. NFC also allows you to do multiplayer games, such as on the Asphalt 5 HD and Angry Birds Magic.

Smart has also introduced their Tap Share program. With Smart's Tap Share, you can know your prepaid credits left on your account, download music and games by simply tapping your NFC enabled smartphone on NFC stickers attached on Smart Wireless Center and Smart Stores nationwide. I just hope that they will make more use of the NFC tags. Using it just to check your prepaid balance is just... odd.

NFC feature is supported and built-in on latest Symbian devices such as Nokia 603, 700, and 701. The MeeGo running phone Nokia N9 also has NFC. Existing C7 users can update their phone to Symbian Anna to enjoy the NFC features.

Paid Contents Now Available at Nokia Store In the Philippines

Hey look what's finally here! I've been begging for Nokia since last year to make paid contents available here in the Philippines. And it has finally came! You can now buy paid apps, games, themes, or anything that is available at Nokia Store. Currently, the prices are in Euro (€) so if you're planning to buy using your credit or debit card, you may incur higher charges as Euros have higher exchange rate than US Dollars.

Coincidentally, I tweeted Andrew from Nokia yesterday ranting on when will they offer paid contents here. He replied that paid contents are currently not available here (so I wonder if they has just flipped the switch today) but highlighted that operator billing should be available very soon. Operator billing is a more convenient and easier way to pay for contents at Nokia Store, add the fact that there are millions of stores that offer electronic top-ups here in the Philippines.

Fingers crossed right now that the price will be available in Philippine Peso (PHP) and that the operator billing will be offered on Smart and Globe Telecom. :D

UPDATE: I've got a word from Nokia Philippines that this is currently a test run. But you can still buy apps or games that you want!

Poll: N9 or Lumia 800?

Nokia announced their last Nseries device last June, which is the N9. It looks so beautiful. It is dubbed as an 'all-screen' phone without any single button on the front. You just use the 'swipe' gesture to navigate around it.

Meanwhile, the twin phone of the N9, was just announced last October at Nokia World. That is the Nokia Lumia 800. It really looks like the N9, sans the front-facing camera, but with the three capacitive buttons required by Microsoft for its Windows Phone devices, a dedicated camera shutter key, and the slightly moved dual-LED flash.

So, we want to ask you which of the two do you want to buy, or even just want?

Here's the quick round-up for the specifications of both phones:
Screen Size
N9 - 3.9 inches | Lumia 800 - 3.7 inches
Screen Resolution
N9 - 854x480 | Lumia 800 - 800x480
Processor
N9 - 1 GHz Single Core ARM Cortex-A8 TI OMAP 3630 | Lumia 800 - 1.4 GHz Single Core MSM8255 Snapdragon / Scorpion
Camera
N9 - 8.0 Megapixels | 8.0 Megapixels
Mass Storage Memoy
N9 - 16 / 64 GB | Lumia 800 - 16 GB
RAM
N9 - 1 GB | Lumia 800 - 512 Mb

For the complete comparison of their technical specifications, please visit this link and then cast your vote on the blog sidebar, just below the popular posts.

UPDATE: You can vote on the poll even if you're not going to buy it. All votes are welcome! :)

Official! Nokia N9 is Coming to the Philippines! PROOF inside

Click the image to view in full resolution.

This afternoon I went to Nokia Store at SM North EDSA and asked about the availability of some new Nokia phones. I asked the Nokia 701, the sales guy said it's already available for some time now. SRP is around P17,000+, forgot the exact price. I then asked if the N9 will be coming here, and then he said YES, it's coming this Q4 2011. I was in doubt that time thinking that he might just guessed it.

And now, I checked the availability page of the Nokia N9 and checked if more countries were added. Guess what? The Philippines was added! Wohoo! So now we have a solid proof that it is indeed coming here! Time to celebrate Filipino folks who are very excited to get this piece of phone. Not me. ;)

Oh, and just another thing to note. Jeff tipped us that some images that appeared on the N9 press shots were taken here in the Philippines, at El Nido, Palawan to be exact. :)

Official foursquare for MeeGo Now Out

Just a heads up N9 and N950 users there! foursquare, or I should say Nokia has just released the official foursquare app for MeeGo! 4squick now has it's competitor as the official app is well-packed and has all features. Plus, it's very quick (pun intended)!
"Foursquare helps you find new ways to explore the world around you. See where your friends are, learn about the places they frequent, keep track of all the things you want to do and learn about new things to experience from your friends!"
