Is this the Samsung GALAXY S IV?

Samsung GALAXY S IV 4 Philippines

The guys at SamMobile claims they received the press render of Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the GALAXY S IV. The design looks similar to that of the Note II, albeit a little taller. The bezel are also thinner on the sides, and the home button is gone.

The GALAXY S IV is supposed to have a 5-inch 1080p full HD screen, an Exynos 5450 processor, 2GB of RAM, 13 Megapixels camera, and will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

If this is real, what I can say is it’s too early as the GALAXY S III was just announced back in May. Or perhaps, this is one of their upcoming Tizen devices. What do you think?

More details point to a September iPhone 5 release in the Philippines

Just as if the new Globe nano-SIM cards are not enough for us to speculate that the new iPhone are coming here in the country soon, the carrier has gone further and sent out text blasts to some of its postpaid subscribers.

Globe iPhone 5

I got that screenshot from a Globe employee who wants to remain anonymous. I received that message from Globe. Globe Postpaid subscribers out there, have you received the same message as well? Fire up in the comments section below.
Oh and just to add, a Smart Communications, Inc. exec has also teased its subscribers that the Philippines may indeed be one of the firsts in Asia to get the new device. Will you buy the new iPhone when it comes out or will you just wait for the features to be revealed and then decide? If you will get it, from which telco?

Leaked NTT DoCoMo roadmap suggests more than one Nexus devices are coming

A leaked roadmap of Japan’s NTT DoCoMo suggests that there may be many Nexus devices this year as Google celebrates the 5th year of its Android operating system.

NTT DoCoMo Xi LTE Lineup

The three devices – a Sony Xperia Nexus (SO-04E), an LG Optimus Nexus (L-08E), and finally, a Samsung GALAXY Nexus II (SC-02E) – will all reportedly run on the carrier’s Xi LTE network. Since Smart’s new 4G LTE network operates on the same 2100MHz Band 1 as NTT’s, I somehow expect that there’s a chance that at least one of those Nexuses will make its way in the country too.

Several other Xi LTE devices are also included in the roadmap. Hit up the source link and check it out.

Apple TV now officially being sold in the Philippines, iTunes Gift Cards Soon?

A little more than a month after Apple opened it’s iTunes Store here in the Philippines, they are coming up again this time, with the release of Apple TV.

Apple TV Philippines

The Apple TV, which appeared as early as August 14, sells for P4,990 at the Apple Online Store and ships in 3-5 business days and as usual, you get free shipping for orders over P3,000.

Apple TV Philippines Product Shot

Another thing that I noticed new to the online store is that you can now receive SMS notifications for your item when in transit. Simply include your phone number when checking out to receive notifications. SMS notifications will be sent between 8 AM to 9 PM

Apple Store Philippines Text Notifications

Lastly, there’s a rumor that Apple will soon sell iTunes Gift Cards for use in the Philippine iTunes Store. If this would turn out to be true, then it’s another plus for Apple as more people would now be able to purchase content at iTunes because as everyone knows, signing up for a credit card is a pain.

When asked for a comment, however, Apple simply replied…

“Apple does not comment on rumour or speculation.”

Nokia 808 PureView Coming Soon in the Philippines?

This is just fresh from my timeline but it Nokia Philippines has just posted a teaser photo of what seems to be the Nokia 808 PureView.

The photo has 4 different shots - a close-up water droplet, a white sea lion, a man in a bicycle holding a bunch of balloons, and a black light bulb. The caption reads "Something BIG is coming this weekend."

So will Nokia really launch the 808 PureView here? I think if they'll do so, then they will have a hard time selling out those Lumia's, especially the Lumia 900 which is not even available here. They should've waited for a PureView device on a Windows Phone.

Nokia (Symbian) Carla Appears on Nokia Developer! Will be Also Available for Older Devices?

Four bug reports mentioning the new update for Symbian devices has been spotted at Nokia Developers! The next update after Nokia (Symbian) Belle is indeed will be named Carla. Firmware version 112.010.0404, dated January 3, 2012 has been reportedly running on Nokia 701, and possibly on Nokia E6 and E7 too.

Does that mean first generation Symbian^3 devices will also receive another update after Belle? Another excitement is building up on me.

Nokia Lumia 900 for $99? Yessss Please!

BGR claims that they just received AT&T's 2012 roadmap from a trusted source, and among the things that are present on that roadmap is the Nokia Lumia 900, obviously. It is expected to be released on March 18th at a mind boggling price of $99.99 on a 2-year contract! Who would resist a very sleek phone for that price? Not me, not everyone. Hopefully.

Anyway, what are you seeing above is the photo of the Nokia Lumia 900 sans the AT&T branding. As we all know, it is still expected to be released globally this year.

Smart Communications recently announced that their network will be "LTE-ready" by mid-2012. So hopefully, they will begin to offer some LTE devices by that time.

Nokia Philippines to Finally Announce the Lumia 710 and 800?

Nokia Philippines has sent us last Thursday an invitation on a thanksgiving event this coming January 19th. Something came in my mind. Aside from the usual thanksgiving part, they might also announce the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 at that event. This coincides with TechPinas' source that the company will launch the Lumia 710 this month.

The invitation does not imply any Windows Phone related design, but it promises that they "have so much more in store for you this year".

Nokia Ace for AT&T Windows Phone Pictures Surfaces

PocketNow.com strikes again with another leak! It says that one of Microsoft's partners, I wonder who is it, has got to excited and seems to have included the yet to be announced Nokia Ace that is headed on AT&T. The photos does not revealed too much info about the device, but we can see a front-facing camera on the top of the device, just beside the earpiece, which seems to be much wider than the one found on the Lumia 800.

The Nokia Ace is just one of the Windows Phone devices that is expected to land on the US on AT&T. The Samsung Mandel and HTC Radiant is among those devices, possibly preloaded with Windows Phone Tango.

Click the photo to view in full resolution.

Look! A mysterious Nokia 2000 device suddenly appeared at Nokia Store! Could this be a 2 GHz S40 phone??? We don't know the specs yet as of this time. Maybe Nokia will announce this on CES 2012 at Las Vegas as their market disrupting device. You might have already of Nokia's Operation Rolling Thunder for the US market. Maybe this is what AT&T and Verizon are currently testing in their secret labs.

Nokia Lumia 900 On End Of February According To Swisscom

If Swisscom is to be believed, then we may see the next flagship phone of Nokia, the Lumia 900. A customer has asked the Swiss carrier on the availability of the Nokia Lumia 800 OR the 900. And, Swisscom has replied  and said that the Nokia Lumia 800 will be available in the end of January, while the 900 is 'still open'. When asked about the 'still open' thing, the carrier responded, "900 end of February".

Nokia may announce the Lumia 900 on Mobile World Congress in February, and ship it on retail stores a few weeks after. The Lumia 900 is rumoured to pack a 4.3-inch display, up to 32GB of internal memory, a front-facing camera which is not present on the Lumia 800, and, an LTE version for the US carriers.

Symbian Belle Release On Early 2012

Symbian Belle was supposed to be out now if a rumour is to be believed. But no. The new update for Symbian is not expected to come until early 2012. This one seems to be a more solid info, as it came from several Nokia accounts online.

So, you willing to wait? Or just go the flashing via Phoenix way?

Symbian Belle On December 5 (Today/tomorrow)?

Remember Taylor? Yes the one who provided us the leaked Symbian Belle firmware not so long ago, said in a post on DailyMobile Forum that the final Symbian Belle for Nokia N8 (and possibly for other devices?) will be finally released on Navifirm on December 5. You might remember that Symbian Belle for N8 mysteriously appeared and then disappeared on Navifirm in the last few days. Hopefully this time Nokia won't disappoint us.

By the way, it's already December 5 here, 2:32 AM. Fingers crossed for tomorrow (or later). Goodnight!

Nokia Lumia 800 Price Cut on 2012

Eldar Murtazin strikes back again. He just said in a tweet that Nokia has already decided a price cut for the Lumia 800 that will take effect on second half of January or by February 2012. The price of Lumia 800 will be slashed by 15%. Eldar calls it "success", ironically.

Well for me, it has been a tradition of Nokia to slash prices of a product after maybe 6 months or so, but for a newly launched product, I don't think it's good, given that the Lumia 800 is not yet even released in many countries.

Symbian Carla and Donna Updates Coming on 2012?

Well well well. Looks what's posted above. It's a super clear blurry shot of what seems to be a leaked slide from a Nokia presentation. It even makes hard to understand because of the foreign language.

But according to SymbianLatino, it states that there are 2 more updates coming to Symbian, named Darla Carla and Donna. More details below.

Symbian Belle

  • Compatible with Nokia smartphones launched in the second half of 2011 with Symbian Anna (they're talking about X7, 500, and E6 here)
  • All Symbian^3 devices will receive the Symbian Belle update in Q1 2012 (talking about N8, E7, C7, and C6-01)
What the hell? I don't believe that we Symbian^3 users will get Belle in 2012! Nokia insisted that it will come on Q4 2011!!!

Symbian Carla
  • Nokia Browser 8.0
  • Dolby Surround Sound
  • NFC (already have this in Belle, maybe new features?)
  • Best widgets (meh)
Now in Symbian Carla they have the Browser 8.0 which is definitely a major upgrade since the version 7 which I think shipped sinced the S60 3rd Edition, I don't know. Well I hope that this will bring full HTML 5 support, trash the Flash because it sucks anyway and makes our phones laggy and slow. Then come the Dolby Surround Sound, which is a win for audiophiles out there, NFC, maybe new uses and features? NFC payments I hope. And it ends with *drum roll* BEST WIDGETS! Horaaay! *sarcasm*

Oh and don't expect that Carla will come anytime soon. They're expecting an end-2012 to early 2013 release schedule. Moreover, I think this will be not compatible to first generation Symbian^3 and Anna phones, those without the 1GHz processor.

Symbian Donna
  • Dual-core processor support
Probably the last Symbian update, as they speculate. :(

Eldar: Nokia Imaging Flagship Unlikely a Windows Phone

Nokia has not yet announced any successor to it's Nokia N8 imaging phone, which is still has the best camera in a smartphone up to present. Even the new Lumias announced by Nokia has only either 5 or 8 Megapixels of camera, which is still very far from the 12 Megapixels on the N8. So here goes a rumour that Nokia won't make the next imaging flagship phone to run Windows Phone. UnwiredView.com says that Nokia will instead build it on top of Symbian, citing multiple trusted sources.

Here's what we can expect on the next flagship phone (N8 Successor):
  • Bigger camera sensor than the N8 (not sure what resolution)
  • Optical zoom (Nokia has mentioned that they will make phones with 'True-zoom' function)
  • 3.5 inches WVGA ClearBlack Display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • And, will still run on Symbian (Belle or the next one)
They also say the it is likely to be announced on Q2 2012, and may be announced on MWC.

Then this day, Eldar Murtazin said in a tweet that...

He maybe meant to say that Microsoft simply cannot support complex cameras like the one on the Nokia N8 on the current version Windows Phone, Nokia could not build such devices (imaging flagship) on Windows Phone.

I then asked him if Nokia will instead use Symbian, and he replied...

So it seems that the previous report by UnwiredView.com is accurate. And we may really see a killer camera smartphone on Symbian next year, with a bumped-up hardware. I just hope that Nokia will bump it a little more, i.e. the screen size, say to 3.7 inches.

Only time will tell. And leaks.

Are you anxiously waiting for the Nokia 600? Really wanting to buy one? The Nokia 600 appears to be cancelled and seems it will not launch after all.

Why? Check the proofs below.

1. Do a Google search of Nokia 600. Click the first link. You will see the error in the photo below. The Nokia 600 is now unlisted on all Nokia product page.

2. Nokia Philippines is not releasing it here. I don't know if other countries are doing the same.
3. Nokia does not list Nokia 600 videos on it's YouTube channel anymore.

More Leak! Nokia 800 in Magenta

Nokia World is just around the corner and that has not stopped TheNextWeb to leak more. They have managed to obtain two more spyshots of the rumoured Nokia 800 (a.k.a Sea Ray), this time coated in Magenta. Looks like it's the long-lost twin of the N9, with only some difference like the newly positioned LED flash and a dedicated camera key.

Now can they just wait and stop all these leaks? They spoils the excitement of the people.

Nokia Sabre Gets Pictured in the Wild

Remember the Nokia Sabre that was leaked by Microsoft Canada? Well, it gets pictured today thanks to a pocketnow.com tipster. The tipster said that it will have a 3.5 inch screen with WVGA resolution, 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel camera and is said to have a price tag around €300 - €350 ($400 - $480). Now I'm really excited to see what Nokia has for us on their Nokia World 2011 event. Oh by the way, Nokia Sabre appears to be the Windows Phone version of the Nokia 603 Symbian Belle device, just like the Nokia SeaRay which is the Windows Phone version of the N9. It also appears to have Nokia Maps pre-installed on it, just as expected.

A Look at the New Nokia Store

Bharadwaj tweeted that someone, okay he's Antonio, posted a tip at MyNokiaBlog.com that he has already installed the new Nokia Store for Symbian Belle. It looks like the MeeGo version of the store. Maybe it's because of Qt. Hmm. Can't wait for Nokia to port other apps from MeeGo to Symbian! ^_^

By the way, if someone knows or has the installer of this new Nokia Store, kindly share it. :D

UPDATE: This version is said to be version 3.16.030.
