Alcatel quietly announces the LTE-touting One Touch Idol S

Alcatel has quietly unveiled a mid-range smartphone on their website, the One Touch Idol S which packs some serious hardware. As with most of the smartphones in their lineup, the One Touch Idol S sports a slim 7.4mm thin body, a full millimeter thicker than the Idol Ultra.

The main features of the Alcatel One Touch Idol S include the 4.7-inch HD IPS Dragontail Glass display with oleophobic coating for a fingerprint-free screen, Philippines-friendly 4G LTE support as well as DC-HSPA, an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash along with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing, and an updated One Touch UI on top of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Powering One Touch Idol S is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor of unknown chip yet and 1GB of RAM. The internal memory, however, is measly at just 4GB, although they are providing a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB should the need arise. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n with dual-band support, wireless display thru Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Little else is known about the One Touch Idol S, such as the battery capacity. No pricing and release date has been announced too, although we’re expecting it to be available across Europe and South America. It will come in Slate, Fresh Rose, and Cherry Red colors.

Alcatel holding off a sale today until June 30, 50% off discount available

If you’ve been itching to get that Iron Man phone but is holding off until now, well you may now finally have a reason not to do so.

Alcatel is having a wipe-out sale starting today until June 30 at all of their kiosks in the country. Selected phones will have a price cut of 50%, but they didn’t specify which ones.

Other phones should be also subjected to lower discounts too. Lucky you if the Iron Man phone is included.

Alcatel and Sun Cellular launches the One Touch Idol Ultra for P14,990

Alcatel and Sun Cellular yesterday announced the arrival of their latest smartphones and tablets, one of which is the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra which made a cameo on Iron Man 3 (the movie is splendid by the way).

The One Touch Idol Ultra, which was announced at CES last January, was officially recognized as the thinnest smartphone at just 6.45mm. At just P14,990, it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and packs a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass and oleophobic coating which makes it oil and fingerprint-resistant. It features an 8 Megapixels camera and a 1.3 Megapixel one on the front. Both are capable of recording 720p HD videos.

Hardware-wise, the One Touch Idol Ultra sports a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. To be honest, I was hoping for a quad-core processor for the price. You’ll also get 16GB of storage on board. There’s Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi b/g/n, which are now pretty standard, but you won’t get HSPA+ here. The maximum supported speed is just 7.2Mbps.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra will also be offered by Sun Cellular for free on Plan 999 and it will come with unlimited data, Sun texts, and 4 hours of Sun calls. Pretty nice deal if you ask me.
