iPhone 5 to finally get LTE in the Philippines next week

iPhone 5 LTE Globe and Smart Philippines

Heads up, iPhone 5 users! Your phones are finally set to get LTE service beginning next week, says Tim Cook at their quarterly conference call.

The iPhone 5 was released in the Philippines last December 14 and it didn’t come with LTE at the time, as expected. But next week, you should see a small carrier bundle update to at least version 13.1. The iPhone 5 on Globe and Smart currently has the version 13.0. To install the update when it’s released, go to Settings > General > About and a prompt will pop up instructing you to update.

Until now, Apple has only enabled LTE on the iPhone 5 in the US, Canada, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The Philippines, along with Switzerland, Finland, and 33 other countries will join the mostly first world countries in the LTE iPhone bandwagon.

Now let’s just wait for the local carriers to flip their LTE networks in more markets so you can really benefit from it. As of now, LTE is currently limited to select cities in the National Capital Region.

Oh, by the way! 4th generation iPad and iPad mini users who own a Wi-Fi + Cellular model should also be able to use LTE next week!
