Smart Implements New Anti-Bill-Shock For Postpaid Users

Smart Communications introduces a new anti-bill shock feature for its postpaid users, specially for those who use (and unknowingly using) internet on their phones like the iPhone and Android users.

Quoting from the press release, I've found something confusing on this part...

"To illustrate, iPhone Plan 999 subscribers are allocated a total of 250MB* of data every month. Once the data allocation has been consumed, the regular charge of P10 for every 30 minutes of mobile Internet use will be billed above the monthly service fee (MSF).
Regular data charging will continue until accumulated Internet charges reach P1,200—at which point, the plan will work like an unlimited data connection until the next billing cycle."

I'll ask Smart for a clearer explanation on that part. I'll update this post once I receive more info.

UPDATE: Got more word from Smart. The anti-bill shock feature will basically transform your plan into an unlimited data plan once your accumulated Internet charges reach P1,200. Coincidentally, that is also the price of an unlidata subscription.

Full press release can be read below.

Smart blocks ‘bill shock’ with new charge cap

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is putting an end to unexpected mobile Internet charges as it introduces its new anti-bill shock feature.

Unlike in the past, where charges continue to pile up because of unknown or unintentional use of data connectivity (e.g. via automatic app updates, location-based services, etc.) the new feature automatically kicks in to prevent overcharging.

Starting today, Smart Data Lite Plans 500, 800 and 1,000 and iPhone Plans 999 and 2499 will enjoy the worry-free data charge cap without the need to enrol or sign up for a separate package unlike those offered by the competition.

To illustrate, iPhone Plan 999 subscribers are allocated a total of 250MB* of data every month. Once the data allocation has been consumed, the regular charge of P10 for every 30 minutes of mobile Internet use will be billed above the monthly service fee (MSF).

Regular data charging will continue until accumulated Internet charges reach P1,200—at which point, the plan will work like an unlimited data connection until the next billing cycle.
“Not everyone is able to keep track of their data usage, which is why Smart subscribers need not register to the new anti-bill shock feature,” said Smart Mobile Marketing Head Guido Zaballero. “Now, both new and existing subscribers can enjoy the power of mobile Internet minus the hassle,” he added.

The best network
Smart makes available only the best connectivity to the best devices.  It is the only telco in the Philippines with a dual band 4G HSPA+ network which gives smartphones and other mobile devices better signal reception, faster connection speeds, and better battery life.

Together with its parent company, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), comprehensive upgrades are being made to transform the network into one that is more than ready to meet the demands of a data-driven future.

Last year, Smart has reported that it has detected a six-fold increase in mobile broadband use in its network.

“We have recorded a tremendous increase in data consumption as evidenced by the spikes in usage,” said Smart Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando B. Vea. “If there are still doubts about where the industry is headed, this should put an end to all speculation,” he added.

To date, network elements such as fiber optic cables, wireless base stations, and international gateways have been modernized under the P67.1 billion endeavor.

First Smart-Sun-TNT Call and Text Offer is Here!

How does a 15 minutes of calls & 200 texts to Smart, Sun Cellular, and Talk 'n Text sound for P20? That surely sounds good! Yes, because Sun Cellular is now under Smart and PLDT, they can start making these kinds of call and text promos. Smart and Sun Cellular has already started offering the Dual Plan P549, and they have come with yet another promo, introducing... the TRIO 20!

TRIO 20 is now available for the 65 million subscribers of Smart, Sun, and TNT! To register, just text TRIO20 and send it to 2477. And what's more, even if you're on Smart, Sun, or TNT you can register on this promo. :)

Full press release below.

First Smart-Sun-TNT call and text offer bared

Capitalizing on PLDT’s partnership with ‘unli’ services leader Sun Cellular (Sun), wholly-owned subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) recently launched Trio 20—the first value for money call and text package available to Smart, Sun and TNT subscribers.

For only P20, Smart, Sun, and TNT prepaid subscribers can send 200 texts and make 15 minutes of calls to over 65 million mobile users in the country for an entire day simply by texting “Trio20” to 2477.

According to Smart Mobile Marketing Head Guido Zaballero, Trio 20 is the only prepaid offer of its kind in the Philippines.

“Nobody has ever done this before because there has never been a network like ours before,” said Zaballero. “Couple this with our nationwidest coverage and we have a service that simply cannot be matched,” he added.

True pioneers
Trio 20 is the second service which has been introduced following the PLDT-Sun merger.
In December 2011, the conglomerate introduced the SmartSun Dual Plan 549 postpaid offering which comes with unlimited Smart-to-Smart and Sun-to-Sun text messaging, 6 hours* of free voice calls, and a Nokia C2-03 dual SIM smartphone.
“Compared to similar offers by the competition, both Trio 20 and SmartSun Dual Plan 549 give Filipinos the best value for their hard earned money,” said Zaballero. “If our combined subscriber bases already like what we’re offering, they’re going to love the other services we have in store for the future,” he added.

65 million strong and growing
The combined infrastructure of Smart and Sun allows even more Filipinos to benefit from the P67.1 billion network modernization program of the PLDT group. With Phases 1 and 2 completed, improvements in call quality, signal reliability, and data speeds are already being felt nationwide.

“With base stations already in place, we no longer have to lease additional areas and build more cell sites just to improve our coverage,” said PLDT Technology Group Head Rolando G. Peña. “This allows us to deliver nothing but the best products and services to all of our customers,” he ended.

    N9 vs. Lumia 800: Who's The Winner?

The voting for the Nokia N9 vs. Lumia 800 poll has already closed before the clock hit the midnight of 2012. And, here's the result.

And the winner is ...*drum roll please*... the Nokia N9!

The N9 outnumbered the Lumia 800, with the MeeGo phone getting 61 (77%) votes, and the Lumia 800 getting 18 (22%) votes. A total of 79 votes has been made. The conclusion is, based on this poll, almost 8 out of every 10 person prefers the N9, while only 2 prefer the Lumia 800 as their choice when they will buy a new phone.

It seems most people still like the "Swipe" UI of the N9. But for me, I really like Windows Phone's Metro UI more. :)

Anyway, be sure to watch out for my N9 and Lumia 800 reviews! :)

How To Access Windows Phone Marketplace On Not Supported Countries

Hi all. This tutorial is for the Windows Phone users there that lives on a country not currently being supported on the Windows Phone Marketplace. This is the case for me here in the Philippines. So without any further ado, here's the steps.

    1. If you haven't created a Windows Live account, click here to create one. If you already have an account, click here (sign-in required) and follow the next steps.
    2. Choose "United States" on the Country/region field.
    3. Set-up your profile, account info, and any other stuffs that you want to add.
    4. Once you have your Windows Phone, turn it on for the first time, and set-up everything.
    5. If you're not asked to add your Windows Live account in the first time set-up, open Settings, then tap email+accounts, and then add your Windows Live account.
    6. Launch Marketplace. Now this is where the very important step comes in. When you're asked to select your country, choose "United States"! If you have skipped this step then you will not have an access to the Marketplace!
    7. The country that you will choose will be locked permanently on your Windows Live account, that's why I asked you to also choose "United States" when creating a Windows Live account.
    8. That's it! Enjoy the Windows Live services on your Windows Phone. :)

By the way, even if the country is set to United States, you can go and try buying an app on your phone using your credit/debit card issued here in the Philippines. According to some sources, it works.

With this tutorial, you will also have access to other Windows Phone features that is only available at the supported countries.

Microsoft, please expand your services to many more countries! Windows Phones are now officially available here in the Philippines but the services are not! That sucks, ya know?

Nokia Ace for AT&T Windows Phone Pictures Surfaces

PocketNow.com strikes again with another leak! It says that one of Microsoft's partners, I wonder who is it, has got to excited and seems to have included the yet to be announced Nokia Ace that is headed on AT&T. The photos does not revealed too much info about the device, but we can see a front-facing camera on the top of the device, just beside the earpiece, which seems to be much wider than the one found on the Lumia 800.

The Nokia Ace is just one of the Windows Phone devices that is expected to land on the US on AT&T. The Samsung Mandel and HTC Radiant is among those devices, possibly preloaded with Windows Phone Tango.

T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 Appears On eBay Ahead Official Launch

I saw an eBay listing just this morning on a T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 710 but I ignored it because it was already 5AM here and I'm already on the couch lying down. So, here's the story...

There's still 12 days left before the Nokia Lumia 710 arrives on T-Mobile. But that has not stopped an eBay seller to put up an auction on the said device. The seller claims that he/she just won the device from Nokia, or probably from T-Mobile. Right now, the current bid is at $355 and there's still 5 days left before the bidding ends. So, if you want to be the first owner of the Lumia 710 on the US of A, head on to eBay and place your bids now. The seller is also a trusted one, with 100% feedback. Another glance on the packaging below.

Heya Android fans! Google's latest flagship phone, the Galaxy Nexus, will be coming here in the Philippines on 2012!
