Smart 4G LTE now commercially available in the Philippines

Smart Communications Inc. has launched the first 4G LTE network in the Philippines yesterday, which makes the country one of the few that offers LTE service.

We already know all of the details of Smart’s initial LTE plans even before the launch yesterday but Smart has one surprise that will delight the early adopters – unlimited LTE data until October 25, 2012 for P3,500 monthly. After that date, subscribers who will exceed their 10GB data allocation will be charged a P450/GB overage fee. They can also choose to purchase additional data at the my.Smart online portal. Smart has added two new Always On data packs, the 5GB pack for P1,999 and the 10GB pack for P3,499. The device will be the Huawei E392 dongle.

Smart is working with Japan’s NTT DoCoMo to bring more devices in the future including mobile phones and pocket routers. The two shares the same 2100MHz LTE frequency, so the move is very logical.

As for the locations covered by LTE, Smart will be putting up specially-marked LTE signs at key places around Metro Manila just so you can easily know. Visit Smart’s website to check the full list of LTE coverage.
